The surveillance state doesn't announce itself. It arrives in updates, in terms of service, in the slow expansion of what’s normal. By the time most people notice, the infrastructure is already in place — the data collected, the profiles built, the opposition documented.

The people building alternatives to these systems are some of the most important people of our time. But they are facing a unique problem: they’re trying to reach an audience that’s been programmed to ignore them.

The issue is not technical, it’s expressive. Babushka is a creative studio that exists to fill this gap. When society breaks down, it’s the babushka who helps it survive. She carries our stories and makes us remember what we’ve been asked to forget.
